It’s difficult for me to put a number on Undertale, it’s such a different experience from RPG’s like Final Fantasy, The Witcher, Elder Scrolls, and many others. I think it’ll be received differently by everybody who plays it, but that’s also kind of the beauty of it. Undertale is an important game because it experiments with what exactly a game can be. It tackles issues and ideas no other game will. Things that I was able to personally connect with from my own life, and for that maybe I’m biased towards loving it so much. Undertale has you reflect, and asks you to think a little bit more than most games
The soundtrack in Undertale , for example the song above, is basically perfect. Like many great classic RPG’s before it, the chiptune soundtrack will stick with you long after playing. Tracks range from funny post, to sad, to adventurous; basically everything you expect out of a great RPG. It reminded me of a time when games like Final Fantasy could convey so much emotion with music alone. I loved the battle theme in particular , and one track towards the very end of the game made me feel pretty emotio
In later patches of the game, talking to the Clam Girl will create a new line of dialogue when you search the first drawer in Sans’ Workshop. The new line refers to a picture of three poorly drawn people and writing saying «don’t forget». This same patch will also give the Clam Girl a new line, where she says that Suzy might be the reason why the protagonist came there in the first pl
This title is a bit lighter in tone than The Walking Dead. You’re encouraged to mess around with wacky weapons and wear silly outfits. However, the story is still pretty serious. As Chuck, you need to figure out how the outbreak happened and how to get to safety. And you need to do that while keeping your child al
If there’s one thing somebody could criticize Undertale for, it’d be its retro inspired graphics that originated with the development constraints on Toby Fox, the game’s sole developer. Before I had played the game I wondered how a game like Undertale could deeply impact so many people. But it’s Undertale’s animation that helps elevate it. Don’t get me wrong, the game can be pretty ugly at certain points. Character animations in particular play a huge role in developing the monster inhabitants, and there are a lot of different monst
Every enemy in Undertale has personality, which further plays into the game’s encounters. Combat is turn based, like conventional RPG’s; the twist is after performing an action you’ll have to play a mini-game where you dodge your foe’s attacks, SHMUP style . It blends turn-based RPG elements with the quick bullet-hell sequences. A weird combination that works surprisingly well. Each attack is representative of that particular enemy, and because of it every enemy feels like an important charac
The Nintendo Switch version of Undertale has added a new event when talking to the Clam Girl. If you return to the Waterfall area during the epilogue, she will say that «The time to meet her…is fast approaching» and turn grey, before disappear
It’s also possible that the line is nothing more than a way of baiting the fans, which wouldn’t be out of character for Toby Fox, as he has included many hints and secret messages within Undertale that seem to only exist to inflame fan speculation and theor
Until Dawn is a narrative horror game where your decisions result in the survival or death of the teen characters trapped at the top of a mountain together. You’ll evade the shadows in the dark as you try and survive, Until D
The protagonist is the human version of the Big Bad Wolf, known as Bigby. He’s a sheriff who investigates all the murders happening around Fable town. Overall, the game rivals The Walking Dead for the title of best Telltale g
It isn’t a very hot start to 2019 for The Game Theorists and their star creator Matthew Patrick (better known as MatPat). Following a livestream of newly-released title Heartbound , the 10M subscriber YouTube channel landed in hot water with Undertale and Deltarune ‘s creator Toby Fox. According to Fox, MatPat and Game Theory went «too far this time» with misleading videos and refusing to promote the indie games they are profiting from.As mentioned above, the controversy all started with an upload a stream of recently-released, Kickstarted game Heartbound by developer Pirate Software — a game totally unassociated with Undertale , Toby Fox, or Deltarune . In The Game Theorist’s sister streaming channel, GTLive, MatPat and his wife Stephanie Cordato played roughly an hour and a half worth of the g
Undertale is quirky and strange. That often times works to its benefit throughout the short journey. While it tells a story revolving around monsters, it turns out to be a surprisingly human one (no pun intended). You’ll often be given the illusion of control at many points. Undertale never fails to surprise you and unconventional things will happen when you least expect them
