Constants library — If you have difficulties remembering the value for atomic mass or astronomical units, don’t worry, it is all documented in the constants library. This library contains most of the constant values you will ever n

It’s up to you how you want Search to work, but I suggest you optimise it to suit just the files you will always be wanting to call up quickly. If you do need to search for other rarely needed files or system folders the Search will still find them, just a little slo

Voila! This is a really useful little tool for me because I often need to play with several different types of files and find the best place to do that is on the Desktop. When I’m done using those files I either delete them or toss them into their relevant folders for safe keeping. ‘Send To’ now allows me to send all my screenshots in a batch into the Screenshots folder. This is also handy if you have any folders that take specific actions when items are added to t

In the indexing options, «˜Advanced’ options will allow you to change what file types are included in the index. It’s a long list and a time consuming task to do properly, but I would recommend giving a quick skim through the list to see what may not be necess

Don’t want to use Bittorrent for some reason? Well no problem you can try «Windows File Sharing» just as you would do on a LAN. Just that it is a lot more simple here. When I clicked on it I was hoping to go through a messy workgroup setup and complicated network settings, but what did I see? I saw the shared printer and shared docs (in other words, it’s already done and I did nothing). Yes that’s how simple it is. Depending upon your situation you may be prompted for a password or do some minor configurations h

One of the unadvertised features of ‘Send To’ is that you can directly change the items that show up in the list. This is done by going to a specific folder and changing its contents. That folder is found in «Documents and Settings/yourusername.» Note: replace «yourusername» with whatever your user account name is on your computer. Here’s what mine looks l

As you can see above, I cleaned out my folder so it only has a few items in it. Now I have the ability to create shortcuts to the Desktop, zip files, and send files to My Documents, My Pictures, and Screenshots. This last folder, ‘Screenshots’, I added by holding the Alt key while dragging Screenshots into the ‘Send To’ folder. This created a shortcut of the selected folder instead of moving it. If you don’t feel comfortable with that hotkey, simply right click the desired item, click «New->Shortcut» and drag your new shortcut into the ‘Send To’ fol

Now when you first saw this tool, if you even noticed it at all, you probably thought it was pretty terrible. Most of the locations on the list, by default, are fairly useless. The only way I ever used ‘Send To’ in the past was to create shortcuts and put them on the Desktop. What you see above is my newly cleaned-up and customized ‘Send To’ m

Yeah, I know»¦ wow, exciting stuff. It’s not something I used to care about either. I remember whenever I heard Microsoft banging on about the gee-whiz search capabilities of Vista I really didn’t care as I was stuck in Win32/XP style navigation; of menus and forms and tabs. Why would I be interested in changing what was already working for

Setting it as the default is now as simple as opening up the «Default Programs» panel then associating the search protocol with the third-party service you want. You will also need to set this program as the defa

Click one of the computer names that you want to access. Choose «Remote Control» from the menu that shows up. Enter your buddy’s password and you’ll get remote access to that computer. The whole password situation used for Remote Control bothers me a bit. While this is fine if you are in a work/home scenario, this might not be a good idea in the «buddy» scenario as the Remobo password and the Remote Control password are the same. So if you know someone’s remote control password, you know their account password. Kinda l
