Many XCOM fans were shocked that Firaxis announced and released a new XCOM game within the same month. XCOM: Chimera Squad is a strange title that changes much of the core XCOM formula. Regardless of someone’s stance on the game’s changes, it was intended to be a giant experiment and entry point for the ser

Archons are basically Floaters that have been given upgraded weapons and an appearance that give them the look/style of the Egyptian gods. These flying aliens have a very high defense rating, increased health, and are armed with staffs capable of ranged attacks. Archons are also immune to flanking attacks. They have a special ability called «Blazing Pinions», which are essentially missiles that deal respectable damage and destroy any cover the player’s squad may be hiding behind. When severely injured in battle, an Archon can go into a battle frenzy which gives them extra actions per t

Ethereals are the leaders of the alien forces. They have numerous, and powerful psionic abilities that can cause havoc among the player’s squad and deliver significant damage. Their deadliest abilities are the ability to control the minds of the player’s soldiers, and the ability to drain a soldier’s health and heal itself at the same time with its Psi Drain. To make them even more difficult, Ethereals have the Hardened trait that makes them highly resistant to critical hits. Ethereals also have a devastating one-two punch with their Mindfray, which lowers a soldier’s Will, and their Rift ability which deals extra damage to a soldier with a low Will sc

Announced during the most recent Nintendo Direct, Triangle Strategy is an upcoming tactical JRPG being developed by Square Enix. Though the game has a visual style similar to that of Octopath Traveler , the game’s gameplay appears to be more akin to that of games like Final Fantasy Tactics, Tactics Ogre , and Fire Emb

Those gamers who played the original XCom probably remember how much of a problem the Reapers could pose. Reapers are large, hunched-over, bi-pedal monsters that are usually encountered with Floaters. The Reaper has more health than any other alien, and can travel across the battle zone with alarming speed. It is quite disheartening to watch a Reaper run across the entire map and kill a soldier in one turn; while seemingly ignoring the damage dealt to it. If it starts a turn next to a soldier, that soldier is not going to survive – even if that soldier is wearing power ar

While some sidequests could only be available to players who made certain choices, the completion of other sidequests could potentially provide additional context to a problem at hand, giving the player insight into how making a given choice may impact the p

However, Firaxis planned for the game to be much easier during most of XCOM 2’s development. The game’s implementation of stealth and a wide range of group-clearing skills had made the game too easy. This resulted in Firaxis rebalancing the game rather late in development to give it the same sense of challenge as the original. Even with the mixed reception of mission timers, most agree that this change was for the bet

After the success of UFO Defense , MicroProse wanted Mythos Games to create a sequel to the game in only six months . To reach such a short deadline, the game would need to remain mostly the same with a few visual and mechanical twe

Sectopods are huge bi-pedal mechs used by ADVENT troops. These tanks on legs can kill an entire squad with its Wrath Cannon if the player is foolish enough to keep them grouped. The Wrath Cannon fires a particle beam, which is three tiles wide, across the battlefield damaging every soldier in its path. The Sectopod can also extend itself upwards; this increases the range of its weapons and allows it better accuracy against elevated soldiers, and soldiers behind cover. The Sectopod also has a very high armor and health ratings- so don’t expect it to fall eas

The worst thing for any RPG is for its combat to grow mundane, bland, or repetitive. As a tactical RPG, Triangle Strategy has the opportunity to feature numerous ways to spice up combat, from interesting map variety to differing win conditions that change from battle to bat

It’s one of those things that plays well with the amount of damage it deals with different percentages and values. It gives that class and soldiers something that’s cool and the abilities grow with that class as it goes.

Oh wow. There’s tons of movies that we’ve looked at, like Elysium to Oblivion to Blade Runner. There’s a large pile. Game-wise it’s a tough one. I don’t think I drew much from other games. It has been mostly movies. A lot of sci-fi stuff we looked at. I mean there are sci-fi games. We looked at Dust and some other stuff. A lot of weapons, characters, environments and Slg advanced Strategies other things. We try our best to make things as original as we can so we try to steer away from that kind of stuff.
